Chemistry Special Effects Video
Our Video: Sky High Trailer
Our project included creating a video that contained special effects using chemistry driven concepts. We began by brainstorming different special effects we see in common movies today. These include: smoke, slime, explosions, freezing, and flames. After completing multiple different labs in class, we use the information we gained during that process and applied them to our video. A few of the labs we did dealt with melting dry ice, burning copper chloride/strontium chloride, flaming bubbles filled with natural gas, and exploding egg shells. We used these chemistry experiments to give our superheroes special powers for our movie trailer.

Reflection:
Although several things could have gone better, the final result was a success. Some aspects that went well during the process was that there was no arguments with our group and we all communicated well, we all had decent time management skills, and had an overall fun time putting this video together. However, a couple things that went poorly were not having the equipment needed on certain days, lacking a cohesive script, and struggling to fill up time to meet the 3 minute time requirement.
Two skills that I gained during this process were learning new filming strategies and how the flaming bubbles catch fire. By recording the scenes from different angles allows there to be a new and better effect that gives our movie more depth. For the flaming bubbles, we fill them with natural gas and once you light one of the bubbles on fire, it creates a chain reaction, and releases the flammable gas, leaving a quick flame. The two things that I believe I need to continue to work on to improve are becoming more of an active group member, in terms of helping with more than one aspect of the project. Secondly, I need to improve on my communication skills so I can get my voice my heard and comprehended my group members.
Recap:
2 Peaks - worked very well together as a cohesive group and had achievable time management skills
2 Pits - finding ways to get more content into our video and lacking a clear script and background
