Comparative Anatomy of
Invertebrates Project
Throughout these series of labs, we dissected and compared 5 species of invertebrates:
- Sponges (Porifera)
- Jellyfish (Cndaria)
- Earthworms (Amelida)
- Squid (Mollusca)
- Grasshopper (Arthropoda)

Reflection
Throughout this unit, there were many topics that became interesting to me. One concept I enjoyed learning about was observing how much in common a jellyfish can be to a grasshopper or a sponge to a squid. All of these invertebrates respire through diffusion, but what really caught my eye was that not only do the sponge and jellyfish breath through diffusion, but also their circulatory and excretory systems diffuse as well. Another thing that came through as fascinating to me was seeing the interior anatomy of the animals and how and where they functioned in the body. This assignment was definitely one of my favorites so far this year.
A few things I want to learn more about are the different species of each invertebrate and how they interact with their environment. I have always been interested in the many different species of an animal because it's enjoyable to see how distinct and alike they are to their relatives. Seeing animals alive in their natural habitiat, rather than dead on a dissecting tray, will definitely increase my knowledge and interest for the subject.
