Dialysis Project
Reflection -
Collaboration:
Overall, we all collaborated as a group cohesively and were successful in sharing ideas to better our project. Although the beginning of the assignment was a bit challenging, it eventually began to flow and thoughts were producing into actions. Every member in my group contributed well, and in the end we got the job done. Below is a chart that describes the collaboration rubric.
1). Two things that I believe my group did particularly well on was one our lack of discouragement, and two our ability to adapt to occurring problems. We never as a group got down or frustrated when ideas weren't flowing, we simply paused for a moment and collectively shared ideas to go about solving issues. Second, was our ability to make changes to fix those problems. One of them being our original clay characters that could not be included in our video because of photos that didn't capture the right shot we were all envisioning, so we had to adapt and use Google drawings to make digital versions of our characters.
2). Although we ended up with a completed project, struggles definitely occurred frequently during the process. One setback was our time management. All four of us got together at Cate's house, however none of us really had an idea of what we wanted to do with the clay to represent dialysis, which resulted in a lot of working time wasted. Also splitting up the collaboration to this project was a bit tricky. Because none of us, except for Cate, had a high-tech camera and proper editing skills, we couldn't assist her in that aspect, so Cate ended up doing the majority of work. We all felt extremely bad for putting all of that pressure on Cate, so we all tried contributed as much as we could to finish and make this project successful. I did the voices for the characters and came up with names to enhance the video's entertainment. Emilie gave a helping hand in every category by helping in creating the characters, researching, and filling in the script. Bronte also contributed very strongly by providing useful opinions to better our final product, and assisting in creating creative, fun characters. Cate edited the whole thing, shot all the pictures, and opened her house as a location to do the project.
3). My favorite thing that I learned in the Dialysis Project was obtaining several new facts about dialysis and how it contributes to curing kidney failure.
Facts I had never known:
1). Urine contains 95% water and the other 5% is made up of different solutes
2). Hemodialysis is a process in which it removes extra waste from your body by circulating blood through an external filter
3). Hundreds of thousands Americans have kidney failure
4). Typical normal volume of urine in an adult is 1-2 liters
5). Three processes that form urine in the kidneys are filtration, absorption, and secretion
